Give us your sense of what, if anything, this Iraq Study Group is going to accomplish inside Iraq. Among the numerous biographies of him are Matti Golans Road to Peace (1989) and Michael Bar-Zohars Shimon Peres (2013). Apprised of his skills, Ben-Gurion appointed Peres head of mobilisation for the Haganah underground in 1947. BLITZER: It seems like that violence is escalating. But some pieces may be wrong. They're worried about the disbanding and disarming of their militias and so forth. BLITZER: But the general notion that James Baker and Lee Hamilton and their colleagues have that, in order to ease the crisis, potentially a catastrophe, in Iraq, the United States has to get much more intimately involved on the Israeli-Palestinian front. But Israeli fury at persistent terrorism prompted demonstrations against the Rabin-Peres administration. And what's happening on the ground is partition. Now he's going to be secretary of defense. And, as Lee said, it's understandable, I think, that the Kurds, who would like their own independent state, might have some problem with some of the things we suggest in there, which is to support the president's vision, this current administration's vision, of an Iraq that can sustain itself, defend itself and govern itself, and that the Shia in the south might want their own state.
